NYCSalt is a non-profit new media program for high school students in the Washington Heights neighborhood in New York, New York. The “NYC” represents our location, and the word “Salt” represents our hope that this program will flavor and preserve the community. The mission of the program is to provide visual communication skills, internships, and exposure to the creative industry in NYC to teenagers in NYC. Through doing so, we hope to encourage them to think creatively, learn problem solving skills, and use their voices to speak out positively in our culture. Using the resources of talent in this great city, the program’s aim is to teach teenagers to make photographs that tell a story, as well as become versed in the areas of videography, graphic design, illustration, photo editing, and web design.
